Canada is booming in importing meat, poultry & seafood

Canadians love meat, poultry and seafood. Fifty per cent of them consume meat or meat-containing products daily, for example. And the amount of imports to Canada reflects the high consumption. In 2021, imports amounted to:
. 185,680 metric tons of beef, with 55.5% coming from the U.S.
. 151,560 metric tons of chicken
. 5,490 metric tons of turkey
And just two years ago:
. Top suppliers of fish and seafood to Canada were the U.S. ($1.23 billion), China ($519 million) and Vietnam ($336 million), accounting for 52% of Canada’s total fish and seafood import value
. Top species imported were salmon ($771 million), shrimp ($665 million) and lobster ($288 million), accounting for 43% of Canada’s total fish and seafood import value
