Canada’s animal protein industry shows its strength

Canada has again shown why it’s the place to be for the meat, poultry and seafood industry! Last year, Canada:
. Produced 1.35 million tonnes of beef
. Exported 646,884 head of cattle and calves valued at $1.0 billion, and 506,578 tonnes of beef and veal valued at $4.45 billion
. Farm cash receipts from the sale of cattle and calves totalled $10.2 billion, 12.4% of total receipts
. Produced 1.30 billion kilograms of chicken (eviscerated weight)
. Generated $3.3 billion from chicken production, contributing 4.0% of cash receipts to farming operations
. The fishing industry generated about $1.1 billion
